Music studies
Prague is a small city that is bursting with culture. Music plays a
central role in this country, where Dvorak was born, Mozart composed
Don Giovanni, and the Rolling Stones paid for the lighting systém in
Prague Castle’s Spanish Hall as a gift to their friend President Vaclav
Havel. At NYU in Prague's music program, students get individual
instruction from leading European artists, work as interns in world
famous concert venues and cutting-edge experimental theatres, and live
in a city where many of Europe's finest performers and composers are
trained.
Launched in the fall of 2005, Prague, along with Florence (launched Spring 2008), is currently one of two NYU
global program sites where music majors can move through their
programs of study as if they were at their own school. The music
program encompasses a wide range of music history, theory and applied music
classes. Internships are available for 1-3 credits at concert halls,
record companies, recording studios, television and radio stations,
theatres, and management companies. Theatre, business, and liberal arts
courses and languages are available to supplement students' music
studies.
Students are housed in a newly-renovated 19th century building equipped with practice rooms, pianos, drum sets, and classrooms for individual instruction.
The music sequence is only offered in the Fall semester. There is complete flexibility in how many music courses students take (although students may only take ONE lesson in private instruction), but decisions must be made in consultation with the student's faculty adviser during pre-registration period. Internship site assignments are administered by NYU Prague staff.

Attached is a list of internships
for the students of music business, technology and education. There
will be a meeting during orientation to discuss placements. If you have
any questions, please contact Marta Fleischhansová. You can also learn more about Steinhardt's Music Study program in Prague and Florence here.
