On Monday October 9, 2006 a seminar was held at The Polish Institute of Prague as part of the Forum 2000 conference in conjunction with New York University’s Prague Institute for Democracy, Economy, and Culture which asked the question “Is Global Governance Possible?” Panel members were renowned British sociologist and philosopher Zygmunt Baumann, Michael Kraus, head of the Political Science Department of Middlebury College and Allison Stanger, a political science professor at Middlebury College. The discussion was moderated by Czech political scientist and Director of New York University in Prague and the Prague Institute for Democracy, Economy, and Culture, Jiří Pehe.

Discussion and photo exhibit by Nancy Crampton: How I took photographs of American writers
Nancy Crampton, a photographer whose works include portraits of American writers from Saul Bellow to William Stryron and Susan Sontag, spoke about her experiences photographing some of America’s best-known writers. The talk was followed by an exhibition of her black and white portraits held at the Polish Institute.

An International Roundtable: The Role of the University in Strengthening Democracy and the Culture of Interdependence
From June 16 to 18-- an International Roundtable on "The Role of the University in Strengthening Democracy and the Culture of Interdependence" was held at the Prague’s Institute for Democracy, Economy and Culture, co-sponsored by NYU in Prague, the American University of Paris and the University of Scranton (Pennsylvania, USA). Academics from thirteen countries gathered to discuss the central role that universities play in developing the civic sensibilities and skills of students.
Participants in the roundtable discussed curricular and extracurricular strategies for enhancing their universities' civic commitments and effective approaches of collaborating with other institutions in building a global civil society.
