Sonia Szomolanyi
Sona Szomolanyi, PhD., is a professor of political science and until recently the head of the Department of Political Science at Comenius University in Bratislava (1996-2007). Her main areas of interest are comparative politics focusing on democratization and elite research. Published widely on Slovakia’s post-communist transition and its democratic consolidation in comparison with that of other countries of East Central Europe Soňa Szomolányi is the author of the monograph: The Crooked Path of Slovakia towards Democracy and co-author of Spain and Slovakia – Two Paths towards Democracy. She recently edited the book Spoločnosť a politika na Slovensku – cesty k stabilite (1989 –2004). (“Society and Politics in Slovakia – Paths toward Stability”); Szomolányi, S.: The 2006 Parliamentary Elections and the Stability of Democracy in Slovakia. In Democracy and Populism in Central Europe: The Visegrad Elections and their Aftermath. IVO, Bratislava 2007. Currently is the national coordinator of the unique comparative research project conducted in 18 countries: “Integrated and United? A Quest for Citizenship in an Ever Closer Europe.”
